I had one of these adaptors at home but lost it. I think I left it on a old tank that was discarded. I couldn't find one locally. I was told by all hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, True Value etc) that they could not longer get these adaptors. Amazon had the best price and availability. This one cost a little more than I previously paid but is exactly what I needed to adapt "old" style 20 lb propane tanks to the new style fittings. The old tanks can't be refilled but I have 3 that are still full to get rid of.

I have mostly only good things to say about this product. On the one hand, if you didn't tell me what this thing did, I'd guess that it'd only cost $50. (They lowered the price from $63 to $58 after I wrote this review... HAH!) The plastic that forms the handle could be thicker. Everything else is pretty satisfactory, however, and I'm more than willing to overpay by $13 to get rid of these damn Asian Tiger mosquitoes, which I, after much careful study, have determined to be harbingers of the Apocalypse. I get about 10 bites a day and hate them with a passion. (For those unfamiliar with the Asian Tiger mosquito, imagine a normal mosquito that is more pervasive [they sneak inside your home with ease], more patient [they'll stalk you for hours], more intelligent [they will go away for 15 minutes if you swat at them and miss, and they will often just wait until you go to sleep], much more difficult to get rid of [the consensus seems to be that CO2 traps don't attract them unless supplemented with other attractants, citronella candles serve only as speed bumps, and they sometimes even ignore DEET], harder to see, and whose bite not only itches more than a normal mosquito, but also burns like an ant bite. In short, they are almost as annoying as fleas but far more difficult to get rid of. They are absolute b--tards and pose a more significant threat than al-Qaeda, Communists, mountain lions, mad cow disease, cyanide-producing grass, and even politicians [perhaps I got a little carried away with that last one.]) Seeing as how I got a West Nile notice taped on my door about 16 hours after my fogger arrived, I was even more confident in my purchase of this here brightly colored contraption. Q grill with cart and the hose(adapter) for 3 years. I love it on the deck and at the park/party, except sometimes the 20lb tank does not work well. I decided to buy a new adapter but thanks to the reviews here I realized a new hose will probably not solve the problem. So I called Weber Customer Service Line 1-800-446-1071. I got the instruction and it works! Here is the instruction:
1. Turn off(close) the tank knob;open the grill lid; turn grill knob to Hi/Start; screw off the hose at the tank side.(I waited for a couple minutes to flush out the hose, I think.)
2. Turn grill knob to OFF;screw back on the hose to the tank; turn on(open) the tank knob STEADILY, not too fast( I actually did it SLOWLY just to hope for the best result); wait for 3-4 minutes for the pressure to build up. This way the grill regulator won't be alarmed and kick in, that's how I understand it.
3. Light the grill as usual -- grill knob on Hi/Start and the hiss and the red button.

Pros:
1. Digital thermometer: If you've smoked much, you know keeping the smoker at the right temperature is often what takes the most attention. As an electric smoker with a built in thermometer, you can set your preferred temperature and then just focus on keeping the woodtray filled, the contents mopped, and you're good to go. (You will still want to use a digital thermometer on the meats themselves to check their internal temperatures, but that's a different matter.)

2. Well insulated: Unlike a traditional side smoker, bullet or most other form factors, the masterbuilt is nicely chunky and really doesn't care overly what the outside temperature is at (within reason)

3. Capacity: Four racks (though with chickens, big roasts, shoulders and ribs you may only end up using two at a time. Still, I've loaded it up 30+lbs of meat at a time which for a product that often drops under $200 when on sale, is not bad at all.

4. Economy: It runs on electricity and with small amounts of wood relatively speaking. Rather than going through large amounts of wood and charcoal, you have a much more affordable smoke, which if you want to smoke regularly (or smoke small batches) is great.

5. Customer Support: You'll find repeated reviews of this online, but Masterbuilt's customer support is second to none. Its hard to find companies that stand behind their products the way Masterbuilt does. If something is defective, they will fix it with little to no questions asked.

I'm a big food Network fan and my favorite guy is Alton. What I saw on one of his shows was the most awesome advice for this device. Take ONE, that's right, ONE piece of newspaper and sprinkle a few drops of vegetable oil on it; then put it under your chimney starter (outdoors, please, eggman if you're reading this) and fire it up with a full can of any kind of charcoal. You won't believe how well this works. One more thing; DO NOT set a chimney starter on a gravel driveway when you start it. For some reason, the heat transfers much easier through gravel than concrete. Just put the thing on your grill grate and wait for 20 minutes. You'll have smokin' hot coals that will be almost too hot for smokin' food. I even saw Alton searing tuna on top of one of these things.
